“I am 34 years old and have survived 15 years of acne. I have been to my dermatologist on a consistent basis. In addition, I have had my friends refer me to their dermatologists (with no luck). I have tried the over the counter products of benzoyl peroxide, Neutrogena, and every other product available. In addition, I have used the prescription strength products of Accutane (which didn’t help) and retin-a. Nothing has seemed to work with my acne and overall clearing my complexion. I would constantly use heavy, heavy makeup to try to cover up my blemishes. My problem area is my chin area and for a long time, I felt I was going to have to live my life just accepting my “problem area.”
My face has no wrinkles because I have tried to stay out of the sun and have used sunscreen anywhere I go!!! I went to a spa to get micro dermabrasion. Are people starting to eat and drink their way to a better-looking self? Mintel Beauty Innovation thinks so as the crossover between food and beauty is increasingly apparent. Global food and drink product launches with a `beauty enhancing` claim increased by a staggering 306% from 2005 to 2008.
“One in five US women between the ages of 18 and 25 are interested in trying beauty functional beverages,” notes Taya Tomasello, senior beauty analyst at Mintel. “These numbers really point to an opportunity within this new segment in
the beauty industry.”
While beauty food and drink products have seen significant growth, overall global food and drink product launches have only seen a 35% increase during the same timeframe. This data speaks to the impact `beauty foods` are having on the market. In addition, already in 2009, nearly 300 food and drink product launches with a `beauty enhancing` claim have been launched, surpassing the total number launched in all of 2008.
Kracie Foods, based out of Japan, recently launched fruit snacks consisting of dried mangoes, pineapples, papaya and cranberries coated with collagen. It targets women in their 20s to 40s who are conscious of their skin health.

In a recent article published in the peer-reviewed journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, it was announced that positive clinical results came from the new Obagi Nu Derm System to treat photodamaged skin.
A test was conducted over a twenty four week period with three hundred and eighty seven participants by Cosmetic Dermatology. One of four treatment strategies was given to each individual. These strategies included the Obagi Nu Derm system and a regimen of systematically dosed over the counter products. These over the counter products were hydroquinone plus tretinoin, hydroquinone plus over the counter products, tretinoin plus over the counter products, and over the counter products alone. Over the course of the twenty four week period, superior results came with the Obagi Nu Derm system compared to the other product strategies. Even after twelve weeks, the Obagi Nu Derm system had reduced people´s wrinkles and fine lines twice as much as the next product. When the test was over, patients using the Obagi Nu Derm system had four times the improvement as any other product. In addition, no negative side effects were reported with the use of Obagi Nu Derm either.
The lead investigator in the study, Dr. James H. Herndon Jr. said that Obagi Nu Derm had significantly better results in the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, laxity, and mottled hyperpigmentation. He also reported no skin irritation or adverse side effects when investigating this particular product. Steve Carlson, Obagi´s President and CEO said that he was super happy with the results from the test conducted and hoped that with this result he could further advance some other products that are already being formulated and tested on.
