Clenziderm Acne System Vlog

Archived in the category: obagi system

Week 1 of my treatment with the Clenziderm System by Obagi.

I’ve tried this system before to great success, but my acne just came back… So after a couple of years and another big breakout, I’m trying it again to see if it’ll work!

Note: I only stepped up the serum treatment to twice a day because I had been using the set for a week and my skin had already become accustomed to it. I still consider this the start to week 1 of treatment, though.

Acne Dermatologist of Manhattan

Acne Dermatologist of NYC Dermatology

New York Board Certified Dermatologist

Acne is one of the most common of all skin problems. It affects most teenagers to some degree and even more adults. Acne shows up as whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and deep painful bumps that look like boils. Acne most commonly occurs on the face but can also appear on the neck, back, chest and shoulders. It is estimated that as many as 80% of people between 12 and 25 years of age suffer from acne. While in most people, acne clears up after few years, many suffer from permanent scarring of the skin. Even when there are few physical marks left, the emotional ones can be devastating.

Acne problems are commonly faced by many young adults and teenagers today. Some people develop acne even at forties and fifties. According to Dr. Rothfeld at NYC Dermatology acne is believed to develop due to various factors like hormonal imbalance, sebum secretion, hereditary factors, and food habits.
Inflammatory lesions in acne

Inflammatory lesions in acne (pimples or zits) include small red bumps (papules), pustules, large red bumps (nodules) and cysts (these are fluctuant nodules). They are often painful. What is the cause of inflammatory acne?

They usually result from rupture of the wall of the closed comedone but may arise from normal-appearing skin.

The factors contributing to inflammation are:

* Bacteria Chemicals produced by Propionibacterium acnes diffuse into the surrounding skin (dermis) and attract white blood cells (polymorphonucleocytes and monocytes).
* Immunological reaction For unknown reasons, the cells lining the sebaceous ducts also produce inflammatory mediators (IL-1a, IL-b and tumour necrosis factor) so pimples may occur in the absence of bacteria.
* Foreign body reaction White blood cells (macrophages and giant cells) removing the debris may cause a more severe granulomatous inflammatory reaction.
* Irritation by lipids Free fatty acids and sebum penetrate the dermis after the duct has ruptured
* Hypersensitivity to P. acnes Hypersensitivity (allergy) to P. acnes is thought to be the cause of the severe skin condition, acne fulminans.

There are many treatment options for adult acne problems, but it is not mandatory that everyone gets cured. Dermatologists prescribe medicines taking skin care into concern. In many cases, blood and urine tests are taken, to test for any underlying causes. Severe acne patients are given antibiotics and very severe adult acne patients are treated with laser surgery, considering the seriousness of the problem. People suffering from acne should consult board certifed dermatologists like Dr. Gary Rothfeld and then undergo treatments that are suitable to them.

Acne treatments are always done on the basis of severity of condition. Mild acne problems can be treated with topical products containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic and glycolic acids. Some persistent acne patients may require systematic antibiotics like tetracycline, erythromycin, and acutane. New methods like chemical peels and lasers are also included in the treatments to eradicate pimples and the marks present.

Comedo Extraction
Sometimes removing comedones proves beneficial. To extract whiteheads and blackheads, dermatologists use a sterile pen-sized device. This procedure should only be performed by a dermatologist. Patients attempts to extract comedones and drain cysts by squeezing or picking, can lead to worsening of the acne, scarring and infection. Tissue injured by squeezing or picking can become infected by staphylococci, streptococci and other bacteria. Dr. Gary Rothfeld, a board certified dermatologist at NYC Dermatology performs this procedure personally.

In many cases, acne cannot be cured completely, but can definitely be controlled in almost every case. Some basic steps need to be followed by adults. They should always touch their face gently, even when washing. Their diet should be as healthy as possible, and they should avoid oily or greasy foods whenever possible. Men should be careful while shaving using electric or ordinary razors, as these can negatively affect acne.

Photodynamic therapy was originally developed for the treatment of cancer . We are only now realizing that there are a number of other clinical conditions which can respond effectively to this exciting new technology. PPP is currently utilizing 3 brand new levulan protocols for the treatment of acne. The cause of acne is multi factorial. The bacterium P. acnes is responsible for the majority of cases of acne, which is also aggravated by excessive sebum production by sebaceous glands.

Research has demonstrated, that visible light has the ability to destroy the bacteria causing acne by activation of topically applied Levulan®. In addition, Levulan® is able to shrink sebaceous glands, which also play a role in the cause of acne. Recent studies have shown that weekly treatments using topically applied Levulan® followed by light activation have resulted in remarkable improvement in the severity of patients’ acne.

Please read!:

Hey one and all, I’ve tried for am extremely long time to get a video of mine to upload. I’ve done countless reviews on acne products- thing is, I just started Claravis (isotretinoin) so I decided to forget all of the other reviews (for now) and do a semi-introduction video to my channel and also explain my first few days on the drug, etc.

Very poor video quality- I wasn’t very concerned with it looking finished, it’s very cut up but if you follow along you’ll get the general gist of what I’m trying to say. Definitely expect my videos post this one to be much more clean and cut!

Summary- Isotretinoin is a last resort drug and should be treated as such, as it is a very powerful and potent drug. Please, if you have acne and are looking for an answer- make an appointment with your dermatologist. This is very key, and there are many options out there. STOP wasting time with over-the-counter treatments (oxy, neutrogena, murad, proactiv, etc.). These will NOT cure your acne, although some brands such as Neutrogena have a wide range of masks, scrubs, etc. that will fit in nicely to your daily regimen.

For anyone who is interested, my daily regimen for the past three years has been:*

~Morning
++ St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub (twice a week)
++ MINOCYCLINE 100 MG twice a day (In the video I said 10-40MG dose- whoops!)
++ OXY Benzyol Peroxide Wash 10% (helps keep bacteria from forming on face, dries out pores)**
—————–
~Night
++ St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub (every night)
++ Tazorac Cream (tazarotene .05%) (Used to reduce oil)**
++ Generic Tretinoin Gel .01%**

* – Please note this is a list developed over the course of three years, and is very different from when I started. This is a list of products I used at the very end of my treatment and had done so for quite awhile but did not always follow this regimen precisely, I had to find what worked with me best.
** – Also realize that these creams, washes, etc. each had different effects on my face and when used together also gave different results. My body became tolerant to powerful creams and washes but it was not always that way. Kind of difficult to explain- I plan to make a video soon describing this regimen and the drugs that I used and how I used them, etc.

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

ISOTRETINOIN REGIMEN: (please note I have just started, and my regimen will most likely change)

~Morning
++ St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub (so far every day, to remove dry flaky skin cells- even though scrubs really shouldn’t be used that often)
++ CeraVe Moisturizer and Softlips Lip Protectant/Sunscreen (ONLY when at home, I haven’t started school back so we’ll see if I end up having to wear either of these to school. I hope not, because again any cremes, lip balms, etc make your face look shiny or greasy which is not what a guy wants to look like when he goes to school!)
—————–
~Night
++ St. Ives Fresh Skin Olive Cleanser (Olive Oil is not bad for your skin. Many people think “oh, oil!” as if it is defeating the purpose of my isotretinoin treatment by causing oily skin. However, Olive Oil is a natural moisturizer and the oil molecules are too large to infiltrate the pores [therefore, it's non comedogenic!] )
++ CeraVe moisturizer (I am also looking into other types. This is a great day moisturizer- lightweight, very low sheen. However I think I may want something more dense for night time use)
++ Lip Balm: I use two types at the moment. Softlips with SPF 20 is a great day time use, because it contains SPF obviously. I also use it at night occasionally, but usually stick to Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment because it’s thicker and not really a balm. It also is an external analgesic relieving any painful or dry sensations and leaves my lips feeling smooth! Not for daytime use, it’s almost like a white cream so its very visible.

thanks for watching and rating- please subscribe and spread the word about my channel!
